Red-bellied Woodpecker

Melanerpes carolinus

9 in. This woodpecker is the most common woodpecker in the southeast. The male has a red cap that extends all the way down his head and the female not so much.

I saw this one in my front yard. It is the first time I have ever seen one of these. I guess that I am at the top of their range. It was pretty... it kind of reminds of a paraquete.
